Educational Games Review

Hello students, after my last post on language related smartphone apps, I decided to make a post on some interesting games and simulations related to poetry that you could check out. Below is a product matrix displaying information on three different games/simulations related to poetry that may help you in school or in the club, or you may simply enjoy just for fun. Beneath the product matrix you can find my own reviews on each of these games. You can find all of these games on the website listed bellow the product matrix. I encourage you all to check out some of the other amazing games and simulations this website has to offer, I just found these three to be some of the most beneficial.

Word Mover Interactive - This fun poetry creation game allows plenty of room for creativity. Students can chose a random word bank, a word bank related to a particular subject or theme, or they can create their own word bank to create their poem. Students can then personalize the background their poem is on, edit the font and color of their words, and arrange the words they are given into a poem they enjoy. Students are able to save their work and resume working later, and they also have the option to share their poems on social media. The game is free and easy to use, the user just has to have Adobe Flash Player installed, which is also free. The game design is fun and easy to use and if there is any confusion there is an instructions tab at the top of the page.

Acrostic Poem Interactive - This interactive acrostic poem game does a great job of getting the idea across on how to construct an acrostic poem. This game begins by asking the user, "what is an acrostic poem?" and then lets the user see the answer. After this, students are able to choose a topic for their poem and then brainstorm a list of words related to their topic. The game provides clear instructions and gives the students hints of possible words they can use in the construction of their poem. This game is also free and very easy to use, Adobe Flash Player installed, which is also free. This game design is fun and helps students learn what acrostic poems are all about while giving them creative freedom. The design is fun and very easy to navigate.

Diamante Poem Interactive - Like a diamond, this poetry game shines. Before one begins the game a diamanté poem is defined, and students can click to see examples of different diamanté poems. Students begin by choosing a title and are guided through the poem creation process by selecting their beginning and ending topics. The poetry format provides clear instructions and guidance for those using the game. This game is free, yet requires the downloading of Adobe Flash Player, which is also free. This game educated students on what a diamante poem is and encourages them to express themselves. The design is colorful, fun and easy to use.
